The Attorney for Environmental Protection of Mexico reported that a group of 27 pilot whales became stranded on a beach in Ensenada, Baja California region. Only three have survived after 15 hours of attempts to return the whales to the sea.

Mexican authorities are investigating the reasons for the beaching. According to the Prosecutor, the most likely hypothesis is that the whales were disoriented, since they had no injuries. As species with "strong social cohesion", according to experts, the whales do not abandon others that are in danger, even if it can lead to death.
