'The bees and man: the value of honey producers'. This was the theme of the course promoted by the Company for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (EMATER). The course brought together beekeepers from the Cacoal region, a city 480 kilometers from Porto Velho, the capital of Rondônia, in the Amazon region, in order to increase honey production. The meeting discussed, among other issues, the reasons for the flight of bees from their hives and the correct use of pesticides.

The region produces about ten tons of honey per year. "We know that honey is a great selling product in the market, but the activity must be organized. Therefore, we are empowering producers so they can sell their products," said Antonio Fernandes, EMATER coach.
