Scientists at the Research Unit on Cetaceans at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia used a drone to capture images of a southern right whale swimming next to her offspring, a very rare white calf, on the western coast of Australia. The species has been on the endangered list because it had been the target of intensive hunting, but its population has increased after this practice was prohibited.

Experts estimate that there are about 3,000 of these whales living along the Australian coast. White calves are quite rare and only 5% are born white before their color turns grey in their first year of life.
