The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) held the 4th Workshop on Pollination and Management of Pollinators in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The event brought together farmers, researchers, specialists and students from across the state in order to encourage good practice in beekeeping. One of the highlights of the meeting was the discussion about the need for unity between beekeepers and fruit producers in order to avoid using improper chemicals in orchards that affect bees.

"The season when flowers bloom is short so it takes the involvement of growers to assist in hive survival. It is during this time when the flowers are at peak fertility and is also when bees need pollen to feed their young,” explained EMBRAPA researcher, Luiz Fernando Wolff.
