This week Brazilian and American researchers are concluding an expedition in the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area (APA), on the coast between Alagoas and Pernambuco. The study included observing the behavior and evaluating the health of the manatees that live in the region. The work, which began on October 24, also included the collection of biological material from the animals, which were tagged with GPS.

Experts use a drone to map the area and assist the two vessels moving between the coral reefs. The expedition brings together researchers from 11 Brazilian institutions, coordinated by the Chico Mendes Institute of Conservation and Biodiversity (ICMBio) and the Sirenia Project of the American Geological Survey.
