By 2020, eight bottlenose dolphins from the National Aquarium in Baltimore will be taken to a marine sanctuary, which is still being chosen. The decision was made amid increasing manifestations rejecting the presence of aquatic mammals in confined environments.

Directors of the National Aquarium have said that the goal is to leave the dolphins in a place where they can continue under the care of specialists. That is because captive-bred animals need an environment for adjusting before living in 'untamed waters'.
