Sun bathers at Praia do Forte, the busiest resort in Cabo Frio, a tourist town on the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, experienced moments of distress after an albino sea lion - an aquatic mammal rarely seen in the region - reached the sand in a weakened condition. The scene drew the attention of a crowd, who feared that the animal would not survive. However, after resting for a few hours, the sea lion managed to return to the sea.

Environmental agents and firefighters roped off an area to isolate the creature and keep the approaching bathers from making it even more stressed. People cheered and shouted as the sea lion returned to the sea. "Based on the analysis we did, he was healthy and must have come up on that beach because of some changes in the sea current," said biologist Eduardo Pimenta.
