Two spinner dolphins ran aground and ended up dying on Japaratinga Beach, on the north coast of Alagoas. The cetaceans were a female dolphin, who had come to the shallow end to give birth and the newborn baby.

According to Bruno Stenis, director of the non-governmental organization Biota Institute of Conservation, dolphins of this species do not usually appear in the region. "The female must have gotten stranded at the time of the baby's birth, and the two did not have the strength to swim," said Bruno, adding that when the institute team arrived the animals were already dead.
