Almost Extinct Bee Species found in Germany

This week, the German Wildlife Foundationannounced that a species of bee almost extinct in the country was found inHamburg, near the city's airport. The author of the discovery was researcherChristian Schmid-Egger. The Andrena Nigricepsbee species have not been seen in Germany since 1938.
Since June of last year, Hamburg airporthas allocated part of its area to a bee protection project. It was in one ofthe hives existing on the spot that the discovery occurred. Of the 560 speciesof wild bees in Germany, half are threatened with extinction. |
