Regulatory News

In a 54-page document, the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy detailed its plan to reform the country's electricity sector regulation. The planned changes are open for public consultation until mid-August. Then the government will send a text to Congress proposing changes to the rules.

The plan foresees the privatization of plants belonging to the state-owned company Eletrobras, which had its concessions renewed in 2012. Another proposal is that electric energy tariffs may vary according to the consumption schedule. Thus, at times when energy expenditure is higher, the cost to the consumer would be higher.
