A joint operation between the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police seized four trucks loaded with contraband cigarettes on a highway in the state of Paraná. Inside the vehicles, were about 1.5 million cartons of cigarettes. The cargo had left Paraguay and would have been distributed in some of the major cities of Paraná; its capital Curitiba, Ponta Grossa, and Maringá

In an investigational report, the trucks - one stolen in the state of São Paulo in February - were located in different places: a gas station, a parking lot, and companies. The four drivers were arrested. The penalty for smuggling varies from two to five years in prison.
