In a major crackdown on cigarette smuggling, the Federal Police arrested 34 people in ten cities in four states: São Paulo, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul and Espirito Santo. During the action, the agents seized 3 million cigarettes, R$200,000 (US$60,000) and two weapons. The investigation also resulted in the discovery of five warehouses where illegal products were stored.

According to the Federal Police, the gang began to be investigated in August 2017. Since then, 25 people have been arrested and more than 4.2 million bundles of cigarettes, as well as 25 trucks and cars have been seized.
