In a major operation, federal police officers operating in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul seized 11 trucks loaded with approximately 1 million packs of contraband cigarettes from Paraguay. Nine people were arrested in the action in which agents had to encircle all access to the city of Ivinhema, population approximately 40,000 people.

The total value of the smuggled product was R$33 million (US$9 million). According to the Federal Police, this was the largest seizure of cigarettes in Mato Grosso do Sul in the last eight years.
