Regulatory News

The National Authority for Offshore Oil Safety and Environment Management (NOPSEMA) released its annual performance report for the year 2018. According to the document released this week, key industry indicators show that both the regulatory agency and the industry have been able to manage the growth of commissioning and production activities without compromising safety standards.

For the sixth consecutive year, no fatalities were reported among workers working on offshore platforms. The report points out that in 2018, eight accidents that included people being injured were under investigation by NOPSEMA, which made recommendations to improve safety conditions. One of the Agency's concerns is that more than half of the platforms are 20 years old, and some of them 50 years old. Therefore, the document emphasizes the importance of constant equipment maintenance.
